The Search Is Over
“His Divine Power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of Him, who called us by His own Glory and Goodness” 2 Peter 1:3 NIV.
What a monumental and heart-stopping verse of Scripture we have in 2 Peter 1:3. God’s Power has given us everything, everything, that we need for life and godliness. This is the very God that created everything, out of nothing. God’s Power is revealed to us in Scripture. Romans 1:20 Scripture is the only true source of unchanging truth that mankind has ever had or will ever have. Matthew 24:35 It is unchanging because God is unchanging. Malachi 3:6 God is perfect so there is no need to change. There is nothing a perfect Being could change into. What could a perfect God change into if He is already perfect? If you are already perfect then you cannot become more perfect, or you would not have been perfect. There is no such thing as advancing in perfection. Perfection, by its very nature, is unchangeable. On the other hand, mankind, individually or as a whole, is so far from perfect that it is an unobtainable quality, contrary to what many may think about themselves.
It is very reassuring that we serve a perfect God. We can count on the fact that He will never change. James 1:17 We can rest in the knowledge that God is today what He was yesterday and what He will be tomorrow: Perfect! Hebrews 13:8 The world around us and even the Universe as a whole is in continuous flux. Everything is in a state of decay. The atoms and molecules that makeup everything are continuously decaying. But God is never changing! Our verse of study assures us, and guarantees us, that the true follower of Christ has been given everything needed for life and godliness. At the point of Salvation through Christ God caused His Spirit to take up residence in the new Christian. The Spirit guides is on the path of righteousness. We have been made righteous through His Power. Romans 5:1 Since we have become a new creation in Christ, 2 Corinthians 5:17 He gives us the life that Peter is referring to. This is an eternal life. Our eternal life starts at the moment of Salvation. Salvation is God’s promise that pulls us out of the fires of hell and puts us into eternity with Him through the sacrifice of Christ on the Cross. Once issued, in the new life of the Believer, it cannot be revoked. John 3:16 illustrates this promise: “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son so that anyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life”. True believers will not perish, but, will have eternal life.
The Conversion
Converting from sinful desires to a righteous life with Christ as Lord and Savior is what Salvation is. All of a sudden the truth of our sin is laid bare before us. We lament over it. We repent of it. We desire to sin no more. We desire to live for God. This is all through the work of the Holy Spirit: God in us. God’s indwelling Spirit will lead you down a path of Righteousness in step with the truth of God the Father and His Son the Lord Jesus Christ. The desires of your old life will fade away like a mist burning off at sunlight. Your heart now only wants to please God, not sin against Him. You will begin to understand the immense price that Christ paid on the Cross for your sins. You will never want to return to your old life because your eyes will see the filth of what your unredeemed life was. All unredeemed sinners spend eternity in hell. Redeemed sinners spend an eternity in Heaven.
All the knowledge that we need about God is found only in the Bible. It is the only source. It is not found in man’s religion or church traditions: but only in God’s Word. This Word, the Bible, will live eternally too. Isaiah 40:8 It, like God, is perfect and never changes. What a relief that we possess such defining and sustaining Truth. Amen.
A Plea for Redemption
If you do not know this truth you can. Ask Christ into your heart as Lord and Savior. If you are sincere He is faithful to Save you from hell. In a quiet place read the following words and meditate on them. Most of all, be sincere and mean them!
Lord, I recognize that I deserve an eternity in hell separated from You.
Lord, I repent of my sins today. I am sorry that I have offended You.
Lord, I am sorry for all the sins I have ever committed against You.
Lord, come into my heart to be the Lord and Ruler of my life.
Lord, I give my life to you this day and all the days that follow.
Lord, You alone have taken the wrath I deserve.
Lord, make me a new creation and continue to renew me as I walk with you.
Lord, I want, and need, You to rule my life as Lord and Savior.
Lord, I want You to guide my steps for the rest of my life.
Lord, I want to serve You for the rest of my life.
Lord, fill my heart with Your Holy Spirit.
Lord, from now on I promise to live only for Your Will.
Lord, I forsake my sinful desires.
Lord, I will serve You as Lord and Master of my life.
I pray this according to Your Will and in Your name Jesus. Amen
